We we all know or have dogs that constantly bark when they see other dogs, pups that jump all over dogs, dogs that cower when they see dogs or dogs that are extremely boisterous when they see another dog on their walk. We can't blame them for doing this if they have had limited time spent with a mixture of dogs.
Dogs learn best by doing! They need to be mixed with other dogs. Puppies especially need to learn how they are allowed interact with an older dog. We can only teach them so much, but if we do not mix them then they will never learn for themselves.
I have had had so many dogs boarding with me that have been nervous around other dogs or ones that will constantly bark on the lead with their owners of they see another dog on their walk. When they come to me, they are mixed with dogs that are young/old/big/small. They are supervised in the correct environment & slowly. You would be amazed at the outcomes!
Dog Walking should be fun for both you & your dog. Meet up with friends who have dogs, go walking together & have play dates. Invite your friend to leave her dog with you for a few hour & vise versa. Always supervise play. Always make it a positive environment. Add treats. Never force your dog to interact with another dog.
Did you know on your walk, when your greeting a strange dog, there is a 3 second rule? You allow your dog to greet for 3 seconds & then you walk away. Greet them side by side facing each other. Lots of people tend to linger on too long & then this is when behavioural issues become a problem.
If you feel you don't have time to socialise your dog why not contact me 0851318476 to help you. I offer an excellent dog walking service that allows dogs to socialise in a fun environment. Each dog is different so I pair dogs on their abilities. So a nervous dog would not be walked with a boisterous dog.
